The 2005 Phoebus Days poster is the work of local artist Nancy B. Kearney.

This year's poster features Roseland, a 17th century plantation house purchased in 1873 by Harrison Phoebus with the hope of renovating it for his family.

In 1886, Phoebus contracted with architect Arthur Crooks of New York City to renovate the high-Victorian style house.

Unfortunately, he never lived to see it lived in by his family: Mr. Phoebus died on February 25, 1886, while Roseland was finally completed in 1887 at a cost of $25,000.

Mrs. Phoebus lived in the home until her death in 1906.  Successive owners have included the Kenyon and Ferguson families.

Sadly, this Phoebus icon caught fire and was demolished in 1985.  Adjacent to its campus, the site - commonly called Strawberry Banks - is now owned by Hampton University.
